Warwick Town
Most famous for it’s literary connections,
Stratford-upon-Avon is situated in the heart of the English
midlands. Rich in culture and history it is a market town
dating back to medieval times, but Stratford is most famous
as the birthplace of the Elizabethan playwright
William Shakespeare.
Stratford-upon-Avon is a picturesque town beautifully
situated on the river and with a wealth of black and white
timber framed buildings. Enjoy a stroll around the town
centre with its good selection of shops, restaurants and
tearooms. There are other ways of seeing Stratford apart
from walking. Relax on a river cruise, hire your own boat,
enjoy a bus tour or a horse-drawn garden seat omnibus
Some sights and attractions include the Birthplace of
Shakespeare, Mary Arden’s House, Hall’s Croft, Holy Trinity
Church (with the graves of Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway), &
Anne Hathaways Cottage. A children’s trail links the
Butterfly farm and the Teddy Bear Museum with others
including the famous Ragdoll Shop (the home of Rosie and
Jim, the Teletubbies and Tots TV).
The Royal Shakespeare Company
Stratford is also home to the world famous Royal Shakespeare
Company.
The Royal Shakespeare Company is one of the world's foremost
classical theatre companies. The two theatres offer the
visitor the chance to enjoy Shakespeare's plays, the works
of his great contemporaries and more modern plays. Enhance
your visit with a meal in one of the two cafés or Quarto's -
the theatre restaurant. Guided theatre tours are also
available, please call for details. There are seat prices
for all budgets and last minute tickets are often available
from the Box Office on the day of the performance.
