Shopping in Kenilworth

Kenilworth has a wide range of shops and businesses to serve the eager shopper.

National retailers are well represented in the town aided by the easy and convenient parking within the town centre’s four car parks. A refund scheme is also in operation amongst some retailers to refund the parking cost for shoppers who spend above a certain amount. This initiative is championed by the Chamber of Trade and the Town Centre Management Initiative.

The centre of Kenilworth will see a resurgence over the next two years with a whole host of developments which will enhance the town centre.

Kenilworth Market takes place at the front of Abbey End each Thursday throughout the year – come rain or shine. The market continues a long long tradition of markets in the area – in fact, the outdoor markets stem from a time when they were the original supermarkets!

The market is well served with parking at the rear of the shops in Abbey End car park which is literally only 100 yards from most of the stalls! The town’s bus stops are also by the market.

The Market has over 30 stalls each week with something for everyone with stallholders a wide range of goods including:

  • Fruit and Veg
  • Fishmonger
  • Jewellery
  • Cheeses & meat
  • Olives
  • dried fruit, nuts, herbs and spices

If you enjoy cooking with the very best ingredients, then you can’t beat the fresh local produce that Farmers’ Markets offer. The certification ensures you are buying local produce direct from local farmers, growers and producers, all using locally grown and raised ingredients where possible.

As usual, there are three golden rules that should apply to a genuine Farmers' Market (which Warwickshire’s are).

They are:

• Producers must be local, defined as within a specified radius of the market site (normally 30 miles)
• Producers must sell their own produce. All secondary produce should contain local ingredients where appropriate
• The person behind the stall must be the producers, a close family member or an employee directly involved with production, allowing you to ask questions about how it was produced. Try it - they know their onions!

The Farmers’ Markets are a wonderful place to shop, meet people, and learn more about the area. The markets are full of good food and great fun for all the family. As well as an array of fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, you will also find a whole host of other delights such as fresh meat, eggs, pickles, chutneys, cheese and sausages. The market also offers freshly baked breads, biscuits, cakes, pies and pastries and an array of wines and ciders. Our speciality producers and growers will be happy to tell you how your food was grown, and how you can prepare it and cook it when you get home. More than ever, Farmers' Markets are good for farmers, rural communities, market towns, the environment, your health and your taste buds.

E.G. Skett operate the Farmers’ Market in Kenilworth (and others in the area – Stratford, Leamington, Coventry, Warwick & Shipston on Stour).

NEWS:

… and finally …
It is a common misconception among shoppers that when they buy from a market they "take a chance", when in fact they have exactly the same protection as they would if they were shopping at a high street store or supermarket.
