Forthcoming Exchanges

Thursday 8 May – Monday 12 May 2008
We shall be visiting Langeais, in the Loire Valley. This is one of the Twin Towns of Eppstein, who will also be visiting at the same time. The occasion is the Fete de l’Europe , when they are having a weekend of celebrations & entertainment. This is part of the development of the Web of Friendship which is building up. A small group from Langeais visited Kenilworth in 2007. Langeais is between Tours & Saumur, has a Chateau & is on the famous Route’d’Or of Chateaux along the Loire Valley.

Friday 16 May – Tuesday 20 May 2008
We shall be in Eppstein, joining with delegations from Aizkraukle, Latvia; Schwarza, Germany & Langeais, France when Eppstein receives the Plaque of Honour of the European Union for their work in developing inter-country friendships. Kenilworth already holds the Flag of Honour, which is displayed in the Council Chamber, Southbank Road. They will also be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the twinning between Eppstein & Schwarza. There will be a weekend of Music & Dancing in the Castle & Town Hall as entertainment.

Friday 20 June – Tuesday 25 June 2008 .
This will be the second half of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the twinning between Kenilworth & Bourg-la-Reine, following on from the first half in Kenilworth in September 2007. Our hosts are laying on a varied programme of activities in the town plus a visit to Mont-Saint-Michel & Bayeux. We hope to take a big group on this special occasion, so please get in touch by 28th February if you wish to go with us. (see below for contact details)

Friday 12 September – Tuesday 16 September 2008
We will be hosting Friends from Eppstein here in Kenilworth. If you wish to join in, please get in touch (see below for contact details)

October 2008
We are hoping to arrange a visit to Roccalumera, Sicily. More details later.

Kenilworth Twinning Association acts as the link between the town of Kenilworth and the towns of Bourg-la-Reine in France and Eppstein in Germany. It is a non-political organisation and is not funded by the Town Council, although to maintain protocol on formal occasions, the Mayors of all three towns are involved. It is funded by membership subscriptions and the various social events held during the year. During visits members pay the cost of their travel etc.

Our longest standing association is with Bourg-la-Reine, with whom we have been twinned since 1982. It is some 8 kms south of the centre of Paris and has a direct Metro link with both the city & Charles de Gaul airport. It is also close to the Chateaux of Fontainbleau & Versailles, and also within easy reach of Disneyland.

We have been twinned since 1994 with Eppstein, which is a small town in the foothills of the Taunus mountains, 25kms from Frankfurt for which it has become a commuter area, being linked by a direct rail service. It is also close to the spa town of Weisbaden and the wine growing region of the Rhinegau.

We normally make at least one exchange visit to or from both twin towns each year, but several people have made friends and enjoy private visits outside of the formal twinning visits. We are normally hosted in private houses and return the compliment on visits to Kenilworth, so we really see what life is like in another country. Some knowledge of the relevant languages is obviously an asset, but many of our hosts speak English (often to our shame!)

More information on our twin towns can be found on: www.bourg-la-reine.fr and on www.europart-eppstein.de
