The Catholic Women's League
was founded in Kenilworth in 1952. Today we have a
membership of 34 ladies and enjoy a wide and varied
programme of activities. Our meetings are lively and there
is a speaker, either secular or non secular, most months.
An annual outing takes place each August. We meet on the
second Tuesday of each month at 8pm at the Parish Centre,
St Francis of Assisi, Kenilworth. For further details
contact Section Secretary, Mrs Teresa Adams, 14 Common
Lane, Kenilworth, 01926 858199, or e-mail teresa@adams-kenilworth.org.uk
League History
The Catholic Women's League (CWL), is a charitable
organisation founded by Margaret Fletcher, a convert, to
unite Catholic lay women in a bond of friendship and to
encourage them to use their talents in the service of the
Church. The Catholic Women's League's mission since its
formation in 1906 has been to educate and encourage
Catholic women to play a role in the work of the Church at
parish, diocesan, national and international levels.
If you are interested in being involved in a forward
looking organisation, with opportunities to discuss
contemporary issues and spend time on spiritual matters,
while also having a great deal of fun.
Our work varies from support for the parish priest, to
implementing the Bishops' initiatives, especially with
regard to the family. We concern ourselves with social
issues such as the plight of asylum seekers, ecumenism,
bio-ethics and women's role in society. Contacts are
maintained with sister organisations in other countries,
the United Nations and Vatican Commissions, through our
participation on the World Union of Catholic Women's
Organisations. We also have links with women's
organisations in other churches.
